Salman Khan - Bollywood Actor

Salman made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role.

His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Rajshri Productions's romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film went on to become one of India's top-grossing movies. It also won him a Filmfare Best Debut Award, (1990) and a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. The film also marked the debut of Rajshri director Sooraj Barjatya.

His second venture with director Sooraj Barjatya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), remains one of Indian cinema's highest grossing films ever. It was responsible for drawing film-viewers back to the cinema rather than watching pirated videos.

Since his success in Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman has appeared in many films, with more hits than misses.

Some of his biggest box office hits since his debut include Sanam Bewafa (1991), Saajan (1991), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999), Biwi No.1 (1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Baghban (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005), and No Entry (2005).

Salman Khan starred in the highest earning films of 1989, 1991, 1994, 1999, and 2005. His recent releases included Jaan-E-Mann (2006), Baabul (2006), and Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007). He is scheduled to appear in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India, which will open in the U.S. in August 2007.

Salman's fan-following can perhaps best be measured from the fact that he is unarguably the biggest draw at musical stage shows across the globe. It is his self-deprecating humour, however, that turns even the uninitiated into his die-hard fan. He has never been out of the top actor's list of Bollywood stars even though he has never won Best Actor award. Some argue he is a bigger star than Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan when it comes to bumper opening of movies at the cinema.
